Skimmer box floaties

Hi!

New pool owner here, everything about my pool is looking good following the advice on this forum, one thing I cannot figure out how to deal with is floating debris in my skimmer box. Lots of bugs and leaves that just float around, when I remove the skimmer basket they all find their way around it!

How do I keep my skimmer box clean before everything sinks to the bottom?

132,

I have a little net, like they use in aquariums, that I use before removing the skimmer baskets..

Do your skimmers have floating Weir doors between the mouth of the skimmer and the skimmer basket?

Thanks,

Jim R.

A tennis ball will velcro all the bugs up and anything with jagged edges.

It'll also suck up any oil / sunblock slicks.

I keep 2 in each skimmer, they are magical.

Unfortunately, that's like asking how do I keep my vacuum-cleaner bag clean after it has done its job. You want all that stuff in the skimmer, even if it floats around the basket as you remove it. The pump will pull it back in. That skimmer sock will force water out of the skimmer as you lift it and the "floaties" will go back into the pool or get under the basket when it is replaced and end up in the pump. Give the recommendations a try, but in the end you will learn to ignore them. Skimmers get dirty.
