Signed the contract this morning, New build Orange County, CA

Looking good dude!
You are going to finish before me!
I put a full flow 3/4" valve before the regulator and backflow just to fill the pool with, city water here is 120PSI. I got a length of 3/4id hose so I could cut the male fitting off when filling the pool, should fill quickly.

Looking forward to your water pics.

Acid wash seemed to go smoothly. Been filling with two hoses for about 4 hours. the beads and shells look great, will take some photos on Thurs. after it's filled and the chemicals have been in for 24 hours. We are doing the start up tomorrow at 5pm, I assume 24 hours without chemicals.

Brian, I think they did a pretty good job on the acid wash the pressure washer also helped a lot. So far only a couple finishing flaws, will need to see what they look like under water, oh wait, I just looked, I can''t see them with water in the pool. I never saw these yesterday, or even today until the sun hit at the right angle and I was looking closely. Not sure there is any fix for them that would look better so what do you do. Just wish they were on the opposite wall as the light it gonna make them stand out at night. Par for the course I guess, I knew this was gonna happen, I was just hoping for a small spot away from lights.

So, do I need to start brushing once per day? If so how many days? The acid guy said we could go in, but I will wait until Sat. so the chemicals have a couple days in the pool. Anything I am missing?

I already looked as the water level when up I can't see them. Not thrilled, but I have yet to see a pool that does not have some finishing mark like this somewhere, I am moving forward. At least these are not foot prints on the floor, lol.

BTW, I highly suggest the tri-blue color beads, wow! the extra abalone was a no-brainer, I wish I added a 3rd bag, but at $300 per bag I was thinking am I going to "over-bling" the pool. I think 2 is a minimum. Can see the shells from upstairs in the house, they look great.

The pool is filling pretty fast, just about to spill over to the top of the Baja shelf. I have a stop watch timing the fill. I will then put the hoses in a 5 gal bucket and time the fill, and calculate my exact water content. The spa filled with one hose in 48 minutes.

I have a link for you BUT you need to share it with your PB as he holds the warranty card:

Pool School - Start-up New Plaster

Ignore the no swimming for 30 days. We are working on changing that as it depends on what kind of start up your pool had. Yours has the start up where you can swim when your PB says you can.

Here are some links I share with new pool owners:

Pool finally filled a little while ago. 9 hours and 43 mins. with two hoses. The Spa took 48 mins with one.

So my PB figures my pool is 18,000 gallons, I was thinking 15k.

What a surprise, total pool and spa = 10,668 gallons! I was shocked! I guess that 16" Baja Shelf and all the steps take a lot of volume away since it's almost 1/3 of the pool. Not that I care, less chemicals! Pool was 10,185.34 and the spa was 483.

After I was filled I pulled the hoses out had my wife with a stop watch at the ready, with two hoses, it filled the 5 gallon bucket in 17.18 seconds. Now it's late, and I have had some wine but I am pretty sure the math is correct. Glad I did this, estimating would have caused all sorts of issues with chemicals. Word to the wise, measure and time your fill.

Lol! Thx, the finish looks pretty good i saw one small trowel mark near the bottom of one step at the wall picture a small line from the edge of the trowel about 1-2" long. Plaster guy said tomorrow that will be fixed tomorrow. I know this is hand applied and will not be perfect, as much as i would like it to be. No pool is perfect and at night the lights show everything. This project has not cured my OCD but I am coming to grips that, on a project this big there are going to be issues. Looking back at December when they shot the pool 2" too shallow somebody on the board said if that's the worst thing that happens I am really lucky, made me laugh many times during the past 8+ month build. I have learned that if i look for a flaw I am going to find one.

I am guessing they need to be careful, not to splash any of the acid on the pavers, that would be bad! Perhaps plastic is a good idea.
. I'm OCD too. I think building a pool helped desensitize me a bit in the end but dang if it wasn't a painful type of therapy! Lol

Something isn't right. The spa should be nearly double what you got and the pool looks much larger.

It looks right to me. Mine looks just a little bigger and is just shy of 14,000 gallons. Those shelves make a huge difference in the water volume.

Ok pool school was a joke. ph was 7.8 he added 1/2 gallon of acid, chlorine was 0.2 he said with out CYA the chlorine is a waste so that was it.

So i am guessing i need to add 5-10 lbs of CYA then add chorine. Looks like i am on my own.
