Signed the contract this morning, New build Orange County, CA

So add 3 lbs for a 10700 gal pool, should i add any chlorine in the morning? I will not be able to put CYA in until tomorrow night.

add it NOW - when the sun is not there FC has more time to kill everything. Since you don't have CYA it won't last long tomorrow during day so you better strike first :)

What kind of chlorine you have? Tablets would be fine at this point.

Have you ordered your test kit? It's a long thread and I don't see it in your sig.

Yes i have the tl-100 test kit. I have liquid chlorine.

So much conflicting info, NPT start up for new plaster says no chlorine for 48 hours.

I just figured i would at least get started off correctly.

Will pick up some CYA tomorrow.

is your plaster less than 48 hrs old? My bad, didn't realize that- please follow whatever your PB requires to make sure you won't have problems with warranty.

I was under impression PB was done with startup sequence and you can use the pool. That process usually takes longer than 48 hrs. I also think fresh water won't remain fresh for too long on its own in this heat.

Titan go back and look at post 269.............that has all of the links you need to help you find the resources for maintaining a pool. BUT listen to what the manf. says for YOUR plaster. That trumps everything else we might say. Don't worry about the now swim part of the TFP link start up as it depends on what kind of start up was done.

CYA-Do NOT follow the directions on the bottle. Get some socks (like you wear) and put the CYA in the socks and hang them in front of your returns. You can/should squeeze them to help it dissolve faster. We have done some behind the scenes testing and found that as soon as it was all dissolve and mix in it should show on the test.

Aim low on the CYA like stated above.........MUCH easier to add than to take away.

My start-up was the same. Went 48 hours after fill without pumps running and then had to go another 48 hours before we could add chlorine. It's eating chlorine pretty well with stuff it needs to kill so be prepared to add extra until you get that CYA in there. We're doing that today.

Thanks,
We have had pumps running. I am brushing twice per day.
Test results this morning:
TC= .5
TB=1
PH=7.5
TA=110
CH=325

Now on that CH test there are different shades of "red" do I go off when it first turns light red or dark? 2 drops more makes the color more saturated. Dumb question i am sure but had to ask. So i will try to get cYa to 30-40. I will try the sock, the start up guy told me to take the skimmer basket and dirverter out as well as the pump basket and dump the cya in the skimmer, said somthing like it needs to get into the filter.

Thanks, i did follow the links but there are some parts that are not clear as in sequence. Npt says run pumps, brush, no chroine for 48 hours. So friday morning, can i put cya in on friday too? They say nothing about cya.

Sorry if i am asking in the wrong place.

I would add CYA today as noted in your other thread having the same conversation. Please stick to one thread for you questions. Maybe pool build here and water chemistry in the other thread. Sequence is not important hence why it is not mentioned or specified. Pump should be running 24x7 at 1400-1800 rpm or so.

More detailed instructions here on the CH test and others.

LOL! Go to sleep! It is just pool water. :)

:lol: Haha! "Just pool water." Love it. My hubby says our pool gets more attention than the house when it comes to my housewife duties! Pool's much more fun! And I'm a numbers nerd - I love it...

I totally understand Titan7!! It's nerve-wracking at first! You'll get the hang of it soon! :)

Lol! Absolutely agree. Haha I like the water testing. I'm never this good about emptying the dishwasher.

Well, I won't be the one who points out that you had like a years notice that this day was coming. :-D Doh! :poke:

LOL, I know, you are 100% correct, I assumed my PB was going to get me started for 30 days. Then add all the the other "excitement" of my build, yes that was a joke, it sort of derailed my digging into the chemicals and testing and next thing I knew water was in the pool.

We got ya Titan! No worries! Lets keep your questions all here. Would you like me to merge the two threads? Is is much easier to keep up with one thread.

You WILL get this and we will help in any way we can. All we ask in return is smiles and pictures!
