Signed the contract and looking at products:)

So we had some additional hiccups that my husband will explain later and he'll post more video of the problems and then the finish being installed yesterday. Today they will be out to acid wash the pool and start the fill. The color is Midnight Blue by Pebble Tec with Shimmering Sea additive. They didn't want to hand broadcast it as it can make it "uneven"but I would have been ok with it. I wanted it to look like fairy dust on the steps and shallows. Oh well one less dream fulfilled;) I did check the truck for pebble Tec bags with our color on them but they also had some marked Black Pearl as well. As far as I could tell they were all used. Is that how it should be? Here are a few pix:

Fixed the top pic IMG code. ;)

That plaster matrix looks really good! It will look even better with water.

Thanks BigEinAZ! The finish company did a great job. They are the only installer of Pebble Tec in Jacksonville. Their crew has been together for years and it shows. They were here for 7-8 hours. Professional and well organized. Can't wait for them to come back today and acid wash it and fill!!!

:( I have a sad for you about the pixie dust no being hand cast. That would have been better but.............it is what it is. They should have let YOU do it so it would be on you if you did not like it LOL

I know some colors are mixes of colors so it could be the black pearl is a part of your color. I can't wait to see it with water in it!

Xian-video??? LOL no pressure!

Mother,

Have some dish towels ready to put on the end of the hoses so the metal parts do not mess up your pretty new plaster AND it also acts as a "filter" for the new water.

Don't worry if you see some green color for the first couple of days. That is VERY normal!

Thanks Kim! Great idea on the towels! I bought a new hose with a soft cap end from Costco ($22) with this partially in mind. Here is a pic of it plus they are cleaning the pool so here's my glass tile looking a bit more shiny

Oh man how I LOVE what I see! That looks awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!

Were you told to NOT stop the water once it starts filling? If not I am telling you. Do NOT stop the water before it gets to the waterline tiles. If you stop the water flow on the plaster it could cause a line to develop :(

I love that smile! "We did it!" I can't wait to see his first cannon ball!

Sooooo... I have a whole bunch of timelapse stuff to finish compiling and post. In the meantime, some pics and updates:

Last weekend we took some pavers we had from a previous deck that I'd done and used them to build a wall. To maintain some level of continuity, we used extra "thins" from the new deck as a cap.

It's not perfect but it's pretty good for a part day worth of work.

As Christine mentioned, we went with Midnight Blue PebbleTec along with the Shimmering Sea (abalone) additive. Pretty interesting stuff watching them do the install. Basically they globbed the stuff out at low pressure and then hand trowelled the stuff over the interior.

As part of the install, they'd trowel the plaster and then another guy would go behind with a wand and wash it with water. They'd then do another round of the surface, continuing to hand trowel in order to compact the surface aggregate and then wash it again to expose the aggregate. I was told that this differs from other pebble finishes where it's more typically a hose and a light brushing via broom. Supposedly the wand gives more consistent coverage and leads to a better looking finish.

The following day was the acid wash. The idea here being that the acid takes off the plaster haze and further exposes the compacted aggregate in the finish. It also entailed a pressure wash of the coping and deck surface to clean up any of the plaster that had gotten past the plastic sheeting.

We finished the fill earlier today (3 hoses). Low water level yesterday didn't keep the kids out and cold water temps today didn't keep them out either!

I don't care what they say... that water is cold.

The wall was really designed as a way to keep from having a slope/grade off the back of the enclosure. The yard naturally drops away ~8" over the depth of the structure vs the original concrete patio. Add to that another ~1.5" for the pavers and sand that went over the original patio and we're talking about close to a 10" vertical drop that has to be accounted for via additional grading. I didn't particularly want to bring in loads of dirt for the back area because it then creates drainage issues laterally as we try to feather the grade to the existing fence by our neighbors. The retaining wall should let me build a planter of sorts there with some grade and then drop down to basically the original level of the yard.

I don't know what we're going to put in it but I'd assume plants and/or grass will go there. Trying to decide if I want to do a silt fence at the wall or any drainage... dunno.
