We have a chlorine vinyl in ground pool. If we just turn things off for the winter and let it go green will it do actual damage to the liner?

Will you be covering the pool? I'm in Georgia and don't close the pool, although my SWG won't work at such cold water temps I just use liquid chlorine over the winter. It takes very little to maintain the pool those months. I may test it monthly but it stays very stable in the cold weather.

Hi Maddie! Do you keep your pump on? We aren't going to cover it this year. I want to cut off the power source completely until we are ready to clear it in the spring but I don't know whether the algae will cause damage to the vinyl liner.

Yes, I run my pump a few hours a day in the winter. I like to see clear clean water instead of a cover so we maintain the pool on a "winter" type schedule. Low chlorine demand, water never needs much adjusting so why cut off the power??

I've never had algae in 8+ years. From reading here algae alone doesn't seem a staining problem, unlike copper or other metals can.

Is algae a common problem for y'all?
