Just a general thank you and testimonial of sorts. I hope this finds someone who is considering following the TFP method of pool care!

At the start of this pool season, I stumbled across a pool forum that I had visited in the past when looking up random pool questions. This time, I took the time to read through the pool school articles. What I learned opened my eyes to a completely different approach to pool care. I was the guy who got my water tested at Lousy’s Poolmart, and then used chlorine pucks until my CYA reached a level to where I’d have to drain and refill every other year. I was fed up and looking for another way.

Decided to give this wacky pool forum advice a try and after draining/refilling my pool in the Spring, I began following the TFP method. Ordered my test kit, went to Walmart and loaded up on a ton of liquid chlorine (gasp..bleach?) and acid. Using the testing kit took about a week to get down by memory. I realized early on the daily testing routine and chlorine additions weren’t really going to be sustainable in the long run. It wasn’t a big deal; 10 minutes each morning but as I continued my journey perusing the TFP forum and articles, I decided a Salt Water Chlorine Generator (SWG) would save me trips to the store, allow for more time between tests, and save me $$$ in the long run. I could also go on vacation without needing someone to stop by everyday to take care of my pool.

Following the advice found here, I found the right sized SWG for my pool. After reaching out to a couple of pool companies who wanted to charge an arm and a leg to install it for me or in other cases tell me they only install products they sell, I decided to do it myself. The folks on this forum were extremely helpful with advising me on how to best make this happen given my set up. They answered all of my questions. Honestly, I probably would have given up on it and hired someone if it weren’t for the generous support provided here.

Since starting this TFP journey, I haven’t had a single algae issue and my water has been perfectly clear. The only chems I’ve had to buy are chlorine and acid. Zero algae. Filter hardly needs cleaning. It has truly been a trouble free pool season.

Thank you to the TFP community! Give it a try and take real ownership of your pool. Your wallet will thank you and you’ll actually be able to enjoy the D*** thing!
