Okay, so I am new and have had our pool for about 3 weeks now. Started with adding Alkalinity increaser and calcium hardener (was going with Baquacil but changed my mind midstream) Anyway, went to the pool store to get products to "convert" and realized I had no actual Baquacil product in my water sooooo......I then had to add Alkalinity decreaser, CYA and 4 bags of shock.
Came here and read and started doing BBB method. Been doing that for about 2 weeks or so now. So far all I've added is Bleach. Haven't had to add the other 2 B's yet. I do notice my Ph rising a bit from 7.2 to 7.5.
My question for now is using the BBB method should I still "shock" my pool (by adding more bleach to get the ppm's up) once a week or every other week just to make sure nothing icky is growing in there??
The water is crystal clear but both my kids had a stomach thing recently, and one had a slight cold after and now my son has a fever (and stomach still not feeling great). Okay, so I'm a little paranoid that my pool water is making them sick.
I test every day and numbers look good. I will say I probably go on the low side with the CL though. Say my water is at 1-2ppm in the morning I will add to get it up to about 4. (CYA was 35-40 last week when I tested) Sometimes I will let it go til the evening before adding the CL though. I would say my range for CL most days is between 2-4.
