Shocking pool question

Re: Confused bt Cl/CYA chart

Hello Daryl! I agree.^^ Increase both the FC and CYA. The CYA is best when confirmed at least at 30ppm. In your area with a cover, you probably won't need much more. But the FC needs to be increased right away with some regular bleach (the plain stuff). The recommended FC range for a pool with a CYA of 30 is 4-6 and never below 2. So once you start adding a little more stabilizer, I'd increase the FC to a good 5 for a day or so and watch it. Make sure over the next few days your FC doesn't drop like crazy. If it does, and you suspect something might be wrong, you can always do an overnight (OCLT) test to rule-out algae. Nice to have you with us.

I been reading some of these post. Your the 3 rd guy that said to use reg. Bleach. If I'm using 3 inch tabs can I add bleach into my pool? There is a $1.00 store that sells one gallon for a $1.00. I always use shock. Thanks.

Yes you can add bleach to your pool.
No I would not get it at the $1 store ... 1. It may be old (check the date code if it exists) and 2. It may be weak (check the strength, if it exists).

I'm gonna ask what no one has yet. Can we see some BIGGER pics of your monster pool? Your avatar is just too much of a tease...

Pool is 30x60 with 2 French ends and a sitting spa. 4 ft deep with a 10 ft deep end. We found the pool installer and they said 120,000 gallons but my pool service said 80,000 plus.

This house was a bank sale. Guy custom built a 3600 sf house then had the pool built all in 06. He walk away from the mortgage one year later in 07 in December. He took everything even the front door. When the oil ran out the heat stoped. Broke a few water pipes. The pool sat for 7 years!!! When I bought it in 2015 there was no cover on pool, never winterize. Dead 12 point deer was dead in pool with trees growing out. 3 ft of leaves on bottom. The liner was ok after the clean up. The pool has cement walls but with a liner.

HOLY Deepend Batman! 80,000 Gallons!

Get into Pool-School NOW! read read read and get a handle on pool chemistry or that is absolutely without a doubt going to be the largest home pond anyone has ever unintentionally constructed. Not to mention the amount of $$ you will spend guessing and over reacting to things you don't understand.

Test your water yourself and stay ahead of it, it can be the best experience of your pool life, fail to take everyone's advice and I can't even imagine what a nightmare that will be.

Be concerned, be very concerned. The struggle will be what you make it.

Thankfully you have a very large support group, but just like all support groups, if you do not take the advice, you won't get much benefit out of attending.

Best of luck, everyone here is cheering your success!
