sand on bottom of pool

I had the same issue last year after I purchased the house. Found bags of play sand under the house.... long story short, that is what they had used to fill the sand filter with. Changed out the sand to appropriate sand and have not had that issue this year. That's one possibility for sand in the pool. The other is one of the laterals in the sand filter may be broken. Will have to empty the filter to check them.
Wrong type of sand in the filter. Or cracked lateral in your sand filter. Or the sand is blowing in from outside the pool. Or not rinsing after backwashing.

We recently replaced our "came with the house" sand filter after having that problem, as well as the multiport valve being stiff and the drain plug threads stripped...figured 3 strikes yer out. Well, the old laterals had no major damage, but the sand that came out was obviously finer than the sand that went in...so replacing sand would have helped a lot. We figured with the other 2 problems it was best to cut our losses and replace the whole beast for $250 + sand.
