Is it normal to have a sand filter with a normal PSI reading of 3 or 4? I've seen lots of people talking about way higher normals and to backwash when it reaches a certain amount over that but mine never goes anywhere close to those numbers......

Sure. Depends on the flow rate through your filter and the piping pressure losses.
If your clean pressure is 4 psi, Clean it at 5 or 6 psi.

Okay thanks. I'll look at it again tomorrow cause I'm thinking normal might actually be 2 or 3 but thanks for letting me know it can be that low. Before finding this site I searched all over and couldn't find anything that said that low was normal. Thought for awhile maybe the filter was bad so it's good to know it can be that low.
Not sure....it's my b/f's pool so I'm not sure...I'll have to see if he remembers (he bought it a couple years ago) or if it says what it is on it......
