HELP!!!
We had to have pipes repaired, last year, under the concrete around our 32,000+ gallon inground saltwater pool. We just had a new liner put in. The installation was stalled when the pool was half full, and sat for almost a week, without any circulation. Needless to say, it's a GREEN MESS, and full of frog larvae and tadpoles.
It's full, now, and we've been brushing, vacuuming, backwashing, skimming, for several days. I was at a loss as to WHAT I should put in, and WHEN. Four days ago, I added eight 40-lb bags of salt, as a start, in hopes I'd be able to get the salt generator running within a day or two. But three days ago, I used a test strip from a new, unopened bottle, and got an off-the-chart pH reading, with a TA of 40. I added 65 oz of Acid Magic, and have continued to circulate the water. There has been no change on the test strip reading. I'm expecting my TF-100 test kit any day, and have held off adding anything else to the pool. The SWG is not on.
As we continue to skim, brush and circulate, we keep losing suction at the skimmer basket; backwashing has helped, temporarily, and we were able to get our Barracuda hooked up, along with a leaf catcher, which caught all kinds of mess from the deep end (where we can't see what's on the bottom). We monitored the leaf catcher, emptying it each time it started getting full, but I guess debris has still gotten through the lines, causing suction problems. There is very little debris caught in the pump basket, each time we backwash.
Are there any suggestions as to how I should deal with the suction problem? And, what do I do about the water chemistry, green water, etc., in order to start the SWG producing chlorine?
I was SO READY to fill the pool with dirt at the end of last pool season, and now I'm asking myself why I didn't...I'd really like to get my sense-of-humor back, but I feel overwhelmed, right now!!
Thanks!
