Salt water pool… pump frozen

Salt water pool. Pump frozen and full of salt. Is this a common problem ? Is there any way to clean salt out of motor ? TIA

Pat,

When the shaft seal leaks and allows water to get into the motor end it, it will corrode everything.

It does not matter if it is a saltwater pool or not...

There is a little hole on the bottom side of the pump, where the pump and motor meet. When you see any water under the pump, the seal needs to be replaced.

When this is not done quickly, then there is no repair possible.

And just as a point of reference...

I have three saltwater pools with IntelliFlo pumps.. All three have been running 24/7 for well over 10 years. None of the pumps leak water out the bottom and I see no signs of any corrosion..

My point being that the problem is not because you have a saltwater pool..

Pump motor is not full of salt, but the corrosion from a leaking seal looks like salt as it affects the aluminum in it. What pump and motor do you have?
