Salt level 3600 last week and 4000 today! Causes?

Bigger filter means proportionately less cleaning. If I had a spare 150 sitting in front of me, I probably would use it. It's not a huge difference between the two if it's free.
And your spare may be the 200, so keep us posted.

On my shopping list is also a backflow hose. Mine is several years old and I do not want to start to drain the pool after the ascorbic acid wash with a hose that might rip. I see several on amazon. I believe I need 2 inches but I will double check. Thinking about 100 feet. Are there some name brands that are high quality? Checking on TFP site, it seems some use a fire hose.
I don't think I will be draining the pool a lot so I just need something reliable for the draining (hopefully this or possibly next weekend)

Thank you for all your research on this and I am sure I will adopt one.

Just received the backflow hose
I ordered 2 inches by 100 feet but apparently I needed a smaller diameter but I don't know where I went wrong. I will show pictures. Sorry about order. From left to right. Image 1 is comparison of old to new.
image 2 is 3.5 inch measurement flat. image 3 is 2 inch diameter of hose stuffed with tissue. Image 4 is 2.5 inch flat of old hose. and image 5 is how my pipes are. Should I have ordered a 1.5 inch or did they send me the wrong hose. Forthcoming will be a picture of pipes with hose removed.

Thanks for replying. I thought of that. Two things I would like to know however . I thought when the diameter of the pool pipe was 1.5 inches that one should by a 2 inch hose. Is that not correct. The other thing is: I can as easily return this as I could get an adapter. Doesn't my present piping limit the flow into the hose because it is smaller? Wouldn't it be better just to get a 1.5" hose. And lastly is this really a 2 inch hose or is it mislabeled?

Pipe sizes are "Nominal", which means that is the name and not necessarily the actual size like a 2 X 4 is not 2" X 4".

There are various ways to measure size of different pipes, fittings and hoses.

It does not really matter that much.

The 2" will give you better flow but it is heavier and more difficult to handle.

Also, you would get better flow if the valve could cut off flow to the filter instead of just opening the waste line.

I would keep the 2" hose, but you can do whatever works best for you.

I think I like what you said but I do not understand the valve idea. Where would the valve exactly go?
The hose is very heavy and that might influence me changing to 1.5. however.

Where the T is next to the red shut off valve handle. Ideally you'd have a 3 way that redirected all the flow to waste. As is, it will mostly take the path of least resistance and you'll lose some back into the pool. Err. You won't lose it. Which takes longer when losing it is the goal

Pic of 3 way to redirect it all to waste

I am starting to understand this. You are saying that flow from the filter doesn't only go to backflow valve but can go back into pool. So I should put a three way in place of my red valve. Newdude mentioned "Also, you would get better flow if the valve could cut off flow to the filter instead of just opening the waste line". So my question to both of you is "Does replaceing the "red valve" do both or do I need 2 more valves?

If you put a 3 way diverter where the T is, you wouldn't need the red handle valve anymore. And you could upsize the discharge to fit the new hose. Kill 2 birds and whatnot. (y)

I was thinking that also and I would just deal with the heavy hose and maybe buy one of those roller things for it.

not sure what you mean when you mention "cut off flow to filter" or exactly where that valve would go?

Just FYI…..Seems the hose you purchased fell through quality control….good quality reinforced 2 inch discharge hose is 3 inches in diameter flat and will fit a 1.5 inch pvc pipe perfectly. Nominal OD of 1.5 inch pvc is 1 and 7/8 inch. Hard to tell in one pic your discharge pipe appears to be the correct OD in another is looks like it may be under Indicating it’s smaller say 1.25 inch? At any rate your hose looks larger than it should.

the new 3 way diverter would stop all water through the filter (and back to the pool) when you wanted to drain quickly. It's also infinitely adjustable. 50/50..... 35/65.... 25/75..... 75/25.. etc.

Sometimes you don't want to flood the yard and it would be able to 1/2 open (etc) like the one you have now.

I understand replacing the red valve with three way. I got confused because I thought pump was pumping water to filter but its flowing from filter to pump? right? and therefore .......I'm still confused (publically confused)

I'm wondering how well it would fit over the valve body.

If it was still too big it's possible it could be folded a little before clamping and still work without too much leakage. (Assuming some)
