I have a difficult pool with a big tree that hangs over it and drops many leaves and stuff. I bought a new Polaris 280 4 years ago which has worked pretty well. This year I noticed that it wasn’t moving much and tended to get tangled in the hose connection coming out of the wall a lot. Looking at the hose I could see that there was a swivel that was leaking a lot of water.
so I ordered a new leader hose and swivel. I installed them and I could see that it still didn’t move well. I checked the hose carefully and I also checked the backup valve. Turns out the backup valve was always on, just changing from full speed to about half speed. I also checked the hose filter. At first glance it looked clean, but when I pulled it out it turns out that there was a tear in it. So I ordered a new BUV and filter. They came today and I installed them.
lt was better, but I could see that the bag wasn’t filling up. I read some old threads here, and saw one where someone mentioned that the jets inside the unit that point up were clogged. I looked closely at mine and I could see that the jets were clogged. I took the 280 apart (2 screws hold the bottom on, and 2 screws hold the jet unit on). I ran water through the jet unit and picked out some dirt and put it back together. Total of about 10 mins for cleaning out the jets.
Put it all back together and it runs great.
I suspect that if I had replaced the filter sooner it would have avoided ruining the BUV and the dirt in the jets.
anyways, thanks for all the help here, which allowed me to get it running
