Hello everyone, I am in desperate need for advise on what to do about my rusting coping around my pool. It is really bad in some spots I know it is going to need replacement in the near further.

When we bought the house we new it needed some repairs to the pool but didn’t think much of it until we really got to looking into how much replacing coping actually is!! It is rusted and just falling apart in a few places the liner is popping out in a few places. Some spots are so bad it would probably cut someone.

So today I tried to put some rust remover on one place and it hasn’t done a thing I sanded it and used a wire brush before hand and nothing changed I even left it on for an hour making sure to not let it dry and nothing happened. :(

I am going to post a few picks anyone with any suggestions on how to temporarily make this better would be greatly appreciated. Like I said I know it needs replacing the people that owned the house before us knew the coping needed to be replaced and they got a new liner and said screw the coping cause I called the people that installed the liner and they said they tried to tell the lady that it would pop out in the places that is really bad. And she went ahead with a new liner so the liner is like 3 years old with really bad coping.

What would y’all do???? Thanks for any response I’m just at a loss right now

Welcome to TFP.

I think replacing the coping will require replacing the deck.

I don't think you can do much with what is there other than begin saving to rehab the pool.

@jimmythegreek any ideas?

Thank you for your reply.

My husband thought maybe putting silicone on the parts that a bad would help with not cutting anyone. Any thoughts on that?

Putting silicone on rusting parts will not stop the rusting.

What will putting silicone on the parts accomplish?

There is no fix for this. The coping is pinned by the concrete deck, getting it out is a mess. Anything you cover it with would be a trip hazard but maybe better than getting cut. I've used automotive mouldings before for custom pieces there are places online that sell it and show the profiles. You may be able to find a C channel that you can screw to deck with tapcons to buy some time. As Allen said the deck is gonna need cutting back or a full demo
