Robot operation at low RPMs?

First I just want to say that it's been about two-three weeks since I got my first robot, Active 30, from Marina and I love it.

My question... is there any reason I shouldn't be able to run it at low RPMs (under 1000) or pump off?

22,

The Robot and your main pool pump really have nothing to do with each other..

Run your pump at any speed you want. As a general rule we don't recommend running at less that 1000 RPM, but that really depends on your pool and your pump.

If you have a SWCG, then you want to run fast enough so that it is making chlorine. Otherwise, the low speed would be whatever allows your pool to skim well.

Once you get below 1000 RPM, the electrical cost savings don't really amount to much...

Edit... You can turn you pump off if you want, the robot will not care. I run mine 24/7, mostly at 1200 RPM, as I like to make a little chlorine all the time and to skim all the time. I also like the look of a pool that has a little 'motion'.. I can do that for less than $20 bucks a month..

Thanks,

Jim R.

thank you for your answer. I know that they are independent of each other but my question was more so just to ensure that I didn't need the pump running at a certain RPMs for water circulation during cleaning or some other reason.

also, thanks for letting me know that the pump shouldn't necessarily run at less than 1000. I currently have it running at 850 from 8pm-8am. The SWCG does seem to work fine though since I can see the little bubbles being made at 7am. I made a post a little while back with a full detail of my pump time/RPMs if you're curious. If not, that's okay too :)

anyway, I consider my question to this post answered. Case closed! Thanks!

22,

I saw this...

Speed 1) 8am-12PM @ 3000 RPM
Speed 2) 12PM - 8PM & 2400 RPM
Speed 3) 8PM - 8AM & 850 RPM

It is your pool and you should do whatever you want.. but..

What is your goal or purpose for running your pump at 3000 RPM??? Also at 2400 RPM??

We recommend you run your pump for a specific reason..

What are you running that needs 3000 or even 2400 RPM?

Thanks,

Jim R.

that is correct. No other reason then that is what the tech installer (from pinch a penny) set it at. I've been meaning to change it but i've been too lazy since I posted the above.

Running your RPM that low to generate FC maybe be risky. If your filter loads up with debris over time your filter pressure will rise slowly resulting a lower flow rate that may trigger your flow switch and shut off your SWCG. You may not notice the shut down if you are not checking regularly. Is 850 your lowest RPM setting or can you adjust your pump lower to determine when your flow switch trips?

I’m also interested in the Active 30. did you get it for $1099? Also, do you think the caddy is a big bonus to have? Just debating between the active 20 and 30.
FYI. If you want a robot vac that has the capability to do ‘floor only’ and not waste time, wear and tear ineffectually climbing to the waterline, you’ll need the Active 40. It came with a caddy also that hasn’t been used since it came out of the box.

Are you selling yours or recommending to get an active 40?

sorry i haven't kept up with this thread but to answer your question I got it from Marina WITHOUT the caddy so it was like $200 cheaper than the 1099. If you already have the 1099 price in your mind and don't need a caddy, the active 40 w/o caddy is like 1150.

Funny they never mentioned to me that I had the option of not getting the caddy.
