Riverside, CA - Backyard Overhaul

Spent the day finishing up the small stuff like hooking up the speakers and connecting the TV as well as some other items I've been neglecting.

I have some serious envy of this pool...

I also got the remainder of the landscape lighting in. Now that the keg is in the kegerator I imagine I'll find myself staying late to get some shots of the area all lit up......... but mostly just to

These planters will be home to dwarf multi-truck Olive trees:cool:

Is that dwarf olive fruitless? Where I am, it’s illegal to plant olive trees (can’t buy them anyway) because of their heavy pollen allergen issues. But, if it’s a fruitless olive, it’s ok.

Fruitless is more like less fruit... You can have them sprayed in early spring and they're not supposed to drop death everywhere

I know the blue flowers are very nice but you’re going to kill your beautiful deck with the olive detritus....maybe go with a different tree? Something not so

Or maybe your ulterior motive is to be their cabana-boy/topiary specialist and you’ll keep all the trees shaped into the various forms of the human male peni ....

The olives are beautiful though. What else you got?

Plumeria

Or maybe Vitex-

I also have a Lemon Bottlebrush tree in a pot that I have been looking to transplant in the yard.

Moon Valley is the DEVIL!

I love plumerias but they look terrible when they are barren for half the year

3 great planting options to really annoy & torture the maintenance tech!

Gotta make them earn their keep

The bottlebrush will keep its leaves year round with a little bit of leaf drops here and there. The flowers are really cool and if you do the watering and fertilizer right, you can get multiple blooms per year. And the tiny little dried bristles are perfect for annoying the pool tech.

I was just using the Moon Valley site for reference images, feel free to shop at your local nursery of choice.

I got a guy down the road that welds scrap metal into the shapes of various desert plants and then paints them vibrant, day-glow colors. No watering necessary and you never have to worry about clean up. He also does scrap metal javelinas, roadrunners, and desert turtles if you’d rather see “animals” there...

Moon valley has bought out just about every nursery in Southern California. One of the biggest ones swore they'd never sell out and I went by it today and saw moon valley signs all over :brickwall:

They’re mostly a Phoenix area nursery in these parts. Tucson is too small a market and most people around here prefer to save their money for meth & fentanyl purchases rather than waste it in landscaping. Maybe if AZ legalized weed Moon Valley would take a look at us hillbillies...

Yep, there are more than one of those guys around here. Some keep them natural steel and let them rust, others use the day-glow paint. I prefer the rusty ones, but my SIL bought us a day-glow 6 ft tall flower that we put in our garden.

Believe it or not it actually gets old. It would be nice if we had some kind of seasons instead of an endless summer.

+1

I grew up in NY and lived/travelled around many parts of the northeast. I used to commute 30mins north out of NYC when I was a working man. I have also visited places like Yosemite and have driven down the pacific coast highway. I can honestly say that I would put the fall colored leaves of October in the Hudson Valley as well as NY State Apple picking season up against anything the west coast has to offer.

Change is a good thing...
