River Pools C40 Fiberglass Pool Installation - [Gore, Virginia]

Looks like Polytec does have this in stock. Is this a superior pump?

It is identical hardware to the 011028 pump but has additional software features in the drive for flow as well as RPM. If you wanted the 011028 pump then the 011056 is the same.

Looks like we have a delivery on the books for the shell in less than 3 weeks. All equipment has been ordered, still waiting on freight delivery of the filter and transformer.

I still need to select returns and skimmers...Any suggestions on returns size and/or type? Also anyone have any more insight on the Paramount Paraskim-v skimmer? Is it worth the extra expense and effort to install?

@ajw22 How does this look for skimmer and return locations? Since I began checking the winds at my location (albeit a little late in the season) the prevailing wind direction is from the West occasionally from North-Northwest. When using two skimmers, should the skimmers be located near or next to one another?

I moved one skimmer and a return. I don't think you need 6 Microbrite lights. 3 to 4 should do. 3 to 4 returns is all you need.

I think minimum is 2 skimmers, 3 returns and 3 microbrite lights. You really don't need more then that.

I see North, but which direction are the prevailing winds in your yard? I’m not an expert, but I’d think you’d want the skimmers on adjacent sides straddling your prevailing wind direction.

Just a little armchair pool designing on my part - you’re welcome 😆 Perhaps someone with more expertise will chime in.

Thanks Dan. Wind direction indicated two posts up.

Thanks for the input. Dang, I already got the Microbrites from Polytec. I was going off the lumen per sq ft rating...

Any concern for the plumbing being close to deck height on the return added on the tanning ledge?

I am sure you can sell the unused ones. You can put them in but I think your pool will look like an airport runway.

No, I think a return there will keep the step area from being a dead spot in the circulation and maybe keep dirt off the step.

Thanks @ajw22, you've been extremely helpful!

I've updated my layout to remove lights/returns and reposition the lights.

What is your opinion on skimmers? We are in the woods, will have plenty of leaves/pollen to contend with as well as two Labs that will surely be swimming as well...Is a typical Hayward skimmer sufficient or should I look to something like the Paramount Paraskim-v skimmer @Tcadwall0 recommended? Any thing special to consider with return fittings?

We've hit our first snag as the pool dealer has just informed me that River Pools switched to semi-truck only delivery and thinks they may have difficulty delivering. Our dealer did a site visit prior to purchasing to confirm access. I'm sure hoping they'll pull through...

I would move a return and light like shown below.

Hayward skimmer is fine. Use hairnets on the skimmers to catch your dogs hair.

I would want the returns threaded so they take the Hayward directional eyeballs...

  • Hayward Directional Flow Inlet Fitting - Eyeball 1 1/2" Slotted - SP1419A
  • Hayward Directional Flow Inlet Fitting - Eyeball MIP 3/8" - SP1419B
  • Hayward Directional Flow Inlet Fitting - Eyeball MIP 1/2" - SP1419C
  • Hayward Directional Flow Inlet Fitting - Eyeball MIP 3/4" - SP1419D
  • Hayward Directional Flow Inlet Fitting - Eyeball MIP 1" - SP1419E

How else would they deliver a 40' pool?

My 36' came on a semi.

I am not sure how many people might have the paraskim. As I mentioned, you don't need a skimmer sock with it, because it has a "permanent" (I will probably have to replace it in a few years) one built in. It is also oversized, so lots of hair, lots of leaves, you have some leeway. Do I think it is a must? No, but I am glad I have it. Also not sure what the up-charge is on it. Mine was just part of the package.

They had an option to have the delivery done by pickup w/ a 5th wheel trailer.

Thanks again for the paraskim insight, you're right, doesn't seem like many have/use them. I'm just not sure I want to go with a skimmer that I have to run a return to...while I'd like this pool to be as low maintenance as possible, if the skimmer were to ever fail and I had to replace, then I'm stuck with having to use the same skimmer or contending with the venturi whole in the shell...probably a small chance the skimmer would fail, but I must consider it...

ahh. Either way - it would probably still require a oversized load escort I would imagine.

Gotcha on the returns as well. I think the way River Pools installs (rigid pipe only, clean gravel backfill only, sump pipe required, etc) you reduce the likelihood of failure by quite some amount. It would probably be quite easy to plug the pipe behind the removable plate (I am not winterizing, but they do show it being removed as part of the winterization) and it look the same but be non-functional.

Pool is scheduled for delivery Monday morning! Looking to get my plumbing supplies in order and have a few questions.

1. Should I use 2" all the way around, or just on suction, and 1-1/2" on return? I reread the plumbing pad best practices and it talks of going from 2" to 1-1/2" for the returns. I assume this is the way to go.

2. What is the preferred silicone for fittings/skimmer to fiberglass connection?

3. What is the preferred PVC cement to use for plumbing connections? Local plumbing supply recommended Oatey Green, but I keep seeing refrences to the Hot Blue.

Thanks again for everyone's help!

@ajw22 How do you recommend running the wiring for lights? Do you use traditional PVC conduit or something else?

Looks like my longest run for returns will be about 80', should I go for 1-1/2" or 2"?

Light -> PVC Condut -> Light Junction box -> Pool Light Transformer -> Automation or Light switch -> 120V AC GFCI breaker

Really will make no operational difference on your pool.

@ajw22 What are your thoughts on the PVC cement and silicone to use for fittings/skimmers? How deep should the skimmer and returns be located? Lights?
