I was curious if a TFP expert would be willing to review and advise on the "SLAM" I'm doing at the moment. Hopefully you're able to see my logs from the PoolMath app. Otherwise, let me know.

This year, I'm running 2 to 3 FAS-DPD tests per sample and averaging the result.

With the variance in the FC results each time, how would I evaluate whether an OCLT is accurate?

With a variance of 2 or 3 FC between your tests, I would review your testing process. Do you have the speed stir, as that can make testing a bit easier. Regardless, you still should not have that much variance if you take your time and test.

Thanks. I've been meaning to try the SpeedStir.

I also saw this in the "Extended Test Kit Directions" article I came across on site:

  • The exact amount of R-0870 powder used is not critical. The goal is to add more than you really need rather than using too little. Using too little R-0870 powder can throw off the results of the test. You need to use enough to bind to all of the chlorine that is present. Adding extra, within reason, has no effect. At very high FC levels it is likely that you will need to use more than the normal amount.
Are FC levels of 20 or so high enough to warrant extra DPD powder? If so, how much should I use?
