We just opened our pool in PA so that we can start to stain our deck.

However, we ran into a problem regarding the return plug.

The return plug is currently stuck inside the return fitting. Unable to spin it without unthreading the entire return fitting as well from the pipe running into the pool. The caulking around the outside of the pool came loose & started leaking around the fitting. A slow drip.

Has anyone had luck removing the plug with this situation? We obviously will need to re-caulk it now as well.

Hey Ashley and belated Welcome !!!

Put one or two wraps of tape around each jaw of channel lock pliers so they don't chip up the fitting trim. Then gently squeeze the trim while you unscrew the plug. Increase pressure on the fitting gradually if it keeps spinning.

If you need bigger channel lock pliers, Harbor Freight and Hone Depot have cheap ones along with the expensive brands.

Welcome to TFP.

Have you tried holding the edge of the fitting with a large channel lock pliers?
