I understand size/shape play a roll in this but what is the proper location and quantity of returns you should have on the tanning ledge?

I have a return on my tanning ledge and there are pits in the plaster the entire path from the return and out from it. This appeared within a year of the pool's completion. I cannot say for sure what caused it but I suspect it is the high(er) chlorine level coming out of the return from the SWG. Whatever you choose, make sure your returns have eyeballs so you can direct flow. Mine are just open pipes.
