Assuming you are filling from your hose bibs, check your water meter before and after and limit water usage during.

I bought some of the hose flow meters similar to what TampaKathy is talking about. I figured out really quick that I wasn't going to go out there in the middle of the night to check on the values. I did it though until bedtime.

Looks like you beat me to the punch. That looks like it will work. It totals so will be much better than trying to catch the meter before it rolls over.

I saw it doing a search here. Maybe it will arrive in time to use it.

On another note,...The cleaning crew left the skimmers full of dirty water, mud, sticks, etc. I also swept up a dustpan full of concrete sand. And around the drain pipes they left lots of sand and grit. I don't understand why they didn't do a better job of cleaning up. One of the skimmers is caked with mud. It just seems like they would have cleaned that as well because I don't want all that gunk in a freshly plastered pool.

Another concern is that there are boot prints on the steps leading into the pool, boot prints in the bottom of the spa (a couple inches deep), rough places on the shotcrete where they were either sloppy smoothing out the surface or mortar got dropped and dried on the shell.

So I have sent text and email to the builder because I am wondering what they will do to 'fix' the issues? Grind down the splattered mortar, build up with very thick amounts of pebble finish. In the spa, it would require a couple inches thick to fill in. So far, and may never, any response from the 'builder'.

Anyone else have these kind of issues and how was it fixed?IMG_1436.jpgIMG_1433.jpgIMG_1432.jpgIMG_1429.jpg

The plaster crew is here today. I contacted the builder to tell him there was mud in the skimmers, sand on the bottom of the shell but as it has been since this started over a year ago, I seem to be the only one that cares. If there had been someone overseeing the project and communicating with me as what to expect, it could have eased my concerns. But since this started, there has never been anyone out here inspecting what was done.

It looks like they will just fill in the boot print craters with plaster and pebble. The test kit is on order but could be a couple of days getting here. Water meter is on order and that could be Thur or Friday getting here so I may not get to use it. IMG_1443.jpgIMG_1442.jpgIMG_1439.JPG

Ten Guidelines for Quality Pool Plaster There are proper steps to follow for the making of durable pool plaster. There are also improper practices that can lead to early deterioration, discoloration or other failures. Above is a ten-point checklist that will help achieve a lasting and discoloration-free plaster.

A Plastering 'Watch List' Taking control of the plastering process is within reach of any quality-oriented designer or builder, declares Kim Skinner. To help you on your way, he offers this step-by-step guide to managing what should happen on site before, during and after plaster application takes place.

I am just now seeing this.......sorry I did not see earlier. The rough areas and boot prints are no problem. The plaster will fill it in.

The dirt=LAZY sigh.....................really guys?? BUT we have seen MUCH worse with leftover food, bottles, wiping paper (yeah with THAT on it) so you are lucky that is all you found!

Grab that salt and put in out of sight. You do not want them adding it to the pool as of yet. I have control issues so would be hiding it from them to make sure they cannot open it and put it in.

But tomorrow looks like a lot of rain.
The guy here that seemed to be the leader said rain this evening will not matter. Don't know if that is true but that is what he said. I figure it will rain at least some this evening. They are coming back in the morning to acid wash and install the fittings/covers and clean up. There is a trough full of slurry. He said they will pump off the top and break up the bottom and haul off.

All the rough areas are finished over and look good from what I saw.

I've been cleaning their trash every since this started. Food, candy, plastic bottles, beer bottles, cigarette butts. No dumpster, no porta potty, no silt screen,... oh and no builder in sight!

Grab that salt and put in out of sight.
I have stored it in my shop along with all the equipment. I did not want the boxes and paperwork to get wet before they install the equip which will have to be soon.

If your equipment is not installed yet, can you start to fill immediately after acid wash and clean up? I only ask because if partially fills with rain there is an issue with a waterline mark. Once water starts going it, it has to stay going in all the way till topped off.

He said I can start filling tomorrow. For all I know they may install the equip tomorrow. I don't get any notice, they just show up.

This is what it looks like now.
PS: As you can see, they left me some more trash! IMG_1459.jpgIMG_1458.jpgIMG_1457.jpg

Great! The colors will really pop after acid wash and all that dry slurry is gone. I know about construction trash, and it is amazing. When I was building the house I could pick up a trash bag of water bottle a day. I didn't mind as long as they were not setting them inside the stud walls, where they were prone to store urine bottles, candy wrappers, fast food bags, etc..... Greatest fear was having such sealed up behind the sheetrock - it happens!!!

It's been raining lightly last night and this morning. Acid wash workers are supposed to come today to clean the pool, slurry tank and trash.

How long can the plaster be left exposed before it has to be filled? Afterwards, how long can it go before the pumps have to be up and running?

Most of the equip is here (except the builder has the heat pump).

How long can things wait before I need to be concerned?

My understanding is fill starts as soon as acid wash is complete, and fill continues until full, un-interrupted. Start with main pool, from the deep end, sock on end of hose to protect floor, also add a plastic bottle (think 2Liter size) so hose end will float up to keep water from leaving mark on bottom. Also you can fill spa, but don't let it overflow into the pool. So fill it to spillway level, but not higher.

Recommendations to watch water meter, to get gallon estimates of pool to bottom step, next step, etc.
