Reprogramming Spillway

I have a Pentair ET 4 controller and the previous owner set the spillway up as Aux 3. Can I change it to a Feature circuit to free up Aux #? How to I reprogram the spillway so that it does not run continuously when the pool pump is on? I would like it to run a couple of times a day for about an hour at a time.
Thanks for your help.

jw,

You don't require ScreenLogic to use Feature Circuits, but it does make it easier.

You can schedule a Feature Circuit just like you can an Aux circuit.

Feature Circuits move valves, or change pump speeds, so they would work perfectly for your Spillway mode.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Yes. I do not know the capabilities of the indoor panel, but you can go out to the ET and assign a Feature Circuit to Spillover. You then schdule that Circuit to run each day as needed.

Jw,

You need to use the menu button on your remote or the outside panel and do the following.

Settings
Circuit Function
Aux 3 (Or whatever name you have assigned to Aux 3)
Change Spillway to Generic This will keep Aux 3 for controlling the Spillover

Settings
Circuit name
Change Feature 1 name to Spillway (You can name this anything you want) ( I assume Feature 1 is not used, if it is find an unused Feature Circuit)
Circuit Function
Change Generic to Spillway The circuit function needs to be "Spillway" for your spillover to work.

Thanks,

Jim R.

jw,

Wait a minute????

If Aux three was for the Spillover, how was it working if the return valve is set to 50/50?

Something is not right???

Show us some pics of your equipment pad as it is right now..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Picture of equipment in auto mode/pool pump on. Spillway is currently set as Aux 3/generic and no schedule has been set. Spillway runs continuously when in auto mode/pool pump on. Sorry to make this more confusing.

jw,

Just to be clear..

The EasyTouch has three modes.. Pool, Spa, and Spillway. The Pool and Spa modes work right out of the box. The Spillway mode will not work unless someone sets it up.

If your Aux 3 Circuit has a Circuit function of "Generic" then it could not have been used to turn on the "Spillway mode". It has to be doing something else.. Tell me what the Aux 3 button does when you push it. Does it turn a valve or just make the pump change speeds or???

In any case, your Return valve is currently set to 50% spa and 50% pool. It needs to be set 100% spa off when in the Pool mode and 100% Pool off when in the Spa mode.

Then we can set up the actual "Spillway Mode" using a Feature circuit. When the Spillway mode turns on, the Intake valve will turn to suck water from the Pool and the Return valve will move to return all the water to the Spa. Instant spillover. You most likely will need to set a pump speed for "Spillway" to match the amount of spillover you want.

Thanks,

Jim R.

When I press Aux 3 button, the valves do not move. The following are my current settings:
Circuit Names:
1/18 - Spa
2/18 - Pool
3/18 (Aux 1) - Pool light
4/18 (Aux 2) - Spa Light
5/18 (Aux 3) - Spillway
Circuit Functions:
Spa/Master Spa
Pool/Master Pool
Pool light/Generic
Spa light/Generic
Spillway/Generic
Schedules:
Only pool mode has a schedule
Pump Speeds:
1/8 - Freeze (1,000 rpm)
2/8 - Pool (2100 rpm)
3/8 Spa (3100 rpm)
4/8 - Solar (2800 rpm)
5/8 - Spillway (2200 rpm)
6/8 - Aux 5 (2,000 rpm)
7/8 - None
8/8 - None

With these settings, the spillway runs continuously when the the pool pump is on. I would like to set this up so the spillway only runs a couple of times a day for about an hour each time.

Thanks again for your help.

jw,

It appears to me that your Aux 3 button is just changing your pump speed to 2200 RPM.

To set up the actual "Spillway Mode' you need to do the following..

1. Reset the Return valve so that in the Pool mode it shuts off all the water going to the
Spa, and when in the Spa mode, it shuts off all water going to the Pool
2. Find an unused Feature Circuit.
Rename it anything you want but 'Spillway' makes sense.
Change the Circuit Function from Generic to 'Spillway'. This is what make the Spillway mode work..
3. Schedule your new Feature circuit (whatever you named it) so that it comes on for half an hour twice a day.
4. Set a pump speed for your new Spillway circuit based on how much water you want to spillover into your pool.

Thanks it..

Thanks,

Jim R.

I guess I am a bit dense as I am having trouble understanding the manual page referenced in Marty's post; however, I will try to find a video that will help. On a separate matter, I turned my solar on a couple of weeks ago but it won't kick in. The weather has been warm enough and I changed the start temperature differential to 2 degrees, but the solar still hasn't come on. The actuator for the diverter valve works manually and the picture in post #11 shows its position (On 2), which I believe is correct. The diagnostics show the temperature as 255 degrees whenever I check it. Could this be a problem with the solar temperature sensor?
Thanks again, John
