My Jandy VS 1.65 horsepower pump has bit the dust - pool company says it's due to a corroded shaft. It's less than 7 years old. I'm considering the Circupool VS as a replacement. Circupool says to get the 3 horsepower model, but my pool company says that's too strong for my DE filter. First, how has the Circupool VS been holding up if you have one (or a Calimar which seems to be the same). Second, should I listen to the pool company and get a lower horsepower model?

Your Pool Company is clueless in how a VS pump should be operated.

You would rarely to never run the 3 HP at full RPMs. You run a VS pump low and slow. A VS pump is a variable HP pump. You run it for the flow your devices. But having a 3 HP pump will use less energy and be quieter at those flow rates.

If you do not care about the VS pump being controlled by Jandy automation then the Circupool will be fine.

div,

As Allen points out above... your pool builder is an idiot...

A 3 HP single speed pump would be too large for your pool.. But a 3 HP VS pump is perfect..

The whole idea of having a VS pump is to run it as slow as you can, and still get the job done.. The larger the pump, the slower it can run, and still move a lot of water. The slower it runs, the less it costs.. The slower it runs, the quieter it is..

There is just no such thing as a VS pool pump that is too big!!!

Go big or go home..

Thanks,

Thanks guys! The pool company was making me second guess myself. So I turned to TFP immediately for the voice of reason. I've been so happy with my Circupool SWG - the same one this pool company tried to talk me out of several years ago because they had "never heard of the company."
