Hi everyone! I wanted to get your collective thoughts on recommendations to bring my 25 yo Goldline-based system into the modern era. I am intermediate level with most things pool but a pretty big tech nerd. I’m wondering if upgrading the system is something I would be capable of doing myself, or if the install or programming would be prohibitive? I do have a lot of equipment, all Hayward or Goldline. Pool + Spa + Water feature. The pool is enclosed as is all equipment, 35000 gallons, salt. I am mainly looking for WiFi control. I previously used the RaspberryPi + Goldline controller hack to get close to WiFi control but it was unreliable. Any recommendations as to a cost-effective, perhaps ‘self’, upgrade? Cheers!

What do you want from an upgrade that you don’t already have?
Goldline became Hayward Prologic and Omnilogic and now OmniPL. Functionality has hardly changed except you can get a color touch screen and app control.

Fair question - really the remote control is the main goal. Perhaps I need to just consider how I can use a remote keypad via RF with a longer distance to at least be able to turn on various functions from my house?

What would you want to remotely control?
I have a wired keypad in the house and by the spa. I don’t find I need to remotely adjust anything once I have things on as I want.

Directly to the Goldline panel you are stuck with Hayward stuff.
Consider using some WiFi controlled switches for the things you want remote control of.
Actually list out the equipment that you have including those that are controlled over RS485.

With a 25 yo Goldline system I am assuming he does not have any RS-485 controlled equipment.
If that is the case then there is no Hayward specific equipment that needs to be accommodated and you are not bound to any Hayward automation. The only protocols that need to be accommodated from Hayward, Jandy, and/or Pentair that might limit automation choices will be RS485. In that instance all of the equipment is supported via remote relay but simple wifi relays do not make a pool controller.

So what would you suggest? Reconnect the RaspberryPi and use HA or something similar? Last time I did that it worked very inconsistently (c 2019).
The actual age is 20 years - 2002 Goldline / Pro Logic system (PL-PS-8). I have a RS485 adapter and was unable to use WiFi switches last time I tried. Does this change things / recommendation ?
No what I am suggesting is that you ditch the Goldline system. The software I referenced above is a full blown pool controller complete with equipment control, schedules, and user interface. List the equipment that you currently have such as pumps, heaters, and/or chlorinators.
As a side note there is also a full blown home assistant interface that will let you easily integrate the functionality into HA if you want.
