11,
In my mind, your "pool guy" does not have a clue...
I am a highly biased Pentair guy, but unless you have a Pentair Automation system having one of their SWCGs does not make sense to me. It has no control system and no way to run any kind of diagnostics to see how well the cell is working. Everything is built into the cell, so all you have are buttons and lights, which give you limited control.
Also, we always recommend a cell that is at least 2 x the volume of your pool, so an IC40 is actually too small for your pool. Will it work, yes.... but you will have to run it a long time to generate the amount of chlorine you will need. I am assuming that this is an outdoor pool without an automatic cover... If you decide to go with the Pentair system, then you should get the IC60..
I love my saltwater pool, but one of the downsides is that you have to run your pump a lot longer than normal. This makes single speed pumps more costly. A 2-speed or Variable Speed pump makes owning a salt system much more cost friendly.
Thanks,
Jim R.
