Replace pump without draining pool?

We need to replace the pump on our AG pool. Our Aquador is unusable and when I ordered a new one last week they sent the wrong model. Is there a hack to be able to block the water long enough to put the new pump in?

There are rubber plugs that should fit in those wall returns. Not sure of something like a tennis ball will work or stay in place. Others may have ideas. Maybe while replacing the pump, install a simple-handle or ball valve for future work. :)

Thanks! We ended up plugging the vacuum hole under the skimmer with the vacuum hose and putting the skimmer lid down in the skimmer with a brick over it.
We really didn't want to empty it below the skimmer because we've had a ton of rain lately and our ground is beyond soggy.
Thanks so much!
