Repairing/patching deck-o-seal

Not really. Putting more on top will not hold and probably look ugly. If it is only in a few spots you can try scraping out the old in the area and feather on new mastic to the old on the edges.

Surface preparation is 70% of a quality install.

But would I be inviting future gaps or weak adhesion between the new and old sealant?

Yes, that is the tradeoff between a patch job and a full redo.
Probably not going to take this on before pool closing. Any advantage to filling with sand in the meantime?
What is putting sand down going to do for you?

Thanks. How long would you expect an installation to last? (Seasonal use only, Northeast, covered in winter.)
10 years or more.

These are shrinkage gaps due to sloppy application. I don't think this is serious and if you want to try and fill the gap then get some mastic and scrape it around the gaps to seal it. Clean around the surface the best you can before applying. It may not look great but it will fill the holes.
