I've read the recommended reading on filter cleaning and many old threads. It seems dishwasher detergent is no longer recommended because they don't contain phosphates. I'm not sure I want to find and use TSP so what's your recommended commercial filter cleaner?

Mix up a cleaning solution of Cascade Platinum Dishwashing Detergent. Rinse well after cleaning.

I just rinse mine off with a garden hose. They are about 8 years old, and work as well today as they did when new. No longer white, but I don't care..

I did the first year. I usually keep some on hand to clean walls prior to painting. It worked well, no issues.
Last year I was lazy and like Jim just did the garden hose rinse.
I've used both of these brands before; no preference.

I have only used hose water for 8 years.. works perfect still.. I do have 2 sets of filters so really the sets only has 4 years on them..
Soaking in TSP will remove the oils from the cartridges and that is what discolors them.
