As you can see, the SLAM takes some time. Here are some thoughts. You can close your pool late September if you wish, although you must open your pool up no later than last week in April or first week in May. What you can do it after you close the pool, go out and purchase inexpensive solid tarps at Wal Mart and cover 80% of the pool for at least one month, or through October and possibly November. You also want water to be able to run off the mesh cover as well. Secure the cover with whatever you are comfortable with. Then come December you can remove the solid tarps. In the spring, you can place back on for the first week weeks only as weather becomes warmer. This will help tremendously.
It also could be due to the mesh cover quality and the amount of sunlight that is allowed in. We closed a pool with CYA and high chlorine only to open to a green pool (friend of mine and not mine). We also closed a pool (liner replacement real late) with no chlorine, no algaecide, no CYA only to open to a clear pool 2 weeks later (another friend). There is a difference in the mesh quality.
The only other option is to close the pool real late and open up early. By the pictures, your back yard looks like the amount of leaves that will fall will be a lot of work, so closing may be in your best interest, but consider some tarps. Good luck and keep us posted!
