Opened pool this middle of 2024 March since we’ve had an early start to spring here in Oklahoma. Plumbing and heater sit outside exposed to the weather, so this year I covered the heater with a heater cover because last year I had issues with mud dobbers and insects making nest in my heater and blowing the thermal fuse. Power washed the inside from the top vent clearing out debris and we were good to go for 2023 pool season.
This year, I fired up the heater, it started immediately but started smoking some on top. Decided to leave it on to burn through any dust or debris but after an hour or so it shut off from blowing a thermal fuse again. Popped the back open and found the issue. A family of mice made a nest. Could not see the nest but found the remaining of the dead charred mice family (only found two little mice). I again, like last year sprayed from the top but noticed there was lots of black soot coming out. So I sprayed from the back underneath opening on the floor of the heater. After a week of drying, I replaced therm fuse and turned it on. Sparks up, click click, I hear the valve turn with that light banging noise but after a couple minutes I get the error “ ignition failure pilot not sensed”. Pulled the ignition system out and it’s pretty dirty with soot, so I cleaned the spark mech and gas outlet and tried again. I see spark but I don’t smell any gas.
Is my ignition system outlet ruined (water and soot from spraying) or is my valve not turning on?
I hear the valve opening up and see the spark but no gas. Gas valve is on at both pipe inlet and gas valve.
I went ahead and bought the ignition system (link below, same part number) and it’s due in this Friday but wanted to cross this all with you all experts incase this doesn’t work.
