Raypak Crosswind 40I operation question

Hello all, new to the forum. I just purchased a Crosswind 40I for my spa, and I am trying to confirm if there is no control wiring required. My thinking is that the internal sensors for the Crosswind will automatically turn on when it senses water flow (and a demand for heat or cool). I just want to confirm this before I install it and then burn up the unit if it comes on without sensing water circulation.

Thanks,
Josh

Your heatpump has a water-flow switches that only allow the heater to operate if there is sufficient water-flow. They are self-contained units

Also, the unit says I shouldn’t run it below 32 degrees. Heat pumps work fine below that temperature, so I don’t see why that would be a concern but would appreciate any advice if I am incorrect on my assumption.

The manual is confusing me because it says under “starting” the user must start the pool pump before the heater or it will be damaged.

Pool heaters typically have a pressure switch. The pump can be off and the system can retain pressure and the HP can be fooled into running with the pump off which will damage it.

If everything works properly then the heater should turn itself off when the pump is off.

If the pressure switch fails then the HP can be damaged.

I am also looking to replace my electric spa heater with a crosswind. If you have it up and running, How has it been?
