Raypak 8450 heat pump shutting down because of a Hi pressure trip

Installed a Raypak 8450 heat pump in October 22, has worked fine maintaining my 12000 gallon above ground swimming pool at 83 degrees with no issues. It's when i use the spa that I have a problem. I have spa set at 98 degrees, heat pump heats it fine until it gets to around 92 degrees, then heat pump trips off due to high pressure, today was only the second time i have used the heat pump for the spa, it had a problem the first time i used it, but only shut down a couple of times and then made it to the set temperature. Today, I couldn't get the spa above 95 because it kept shutting down. The heat pump was professionally installed and is under warranty. I have a pentair VS pump 3.5 hp and 2" plumbing. there is a bypass valve installed. I have changed the pump speed from 1500 rpm to 3200 rpm, as well as adjusting the bypass, problem still occurs. All filters and baskets are clean. After putting equipment back to pool mode, the heater again worked fine, pool temp was 80 degrees. Heat pump ran fine like it always does in pool mode. I am thinking it has something to do with the temperature of the spa water and the refrigerant pressures. Any ideas of what could be going on is appreciated. If necessary, I can place a service call. Thanks

Welcome to TFP.

What was the outside air temperature when you got the high pressure error?

You need to call for service so the refrigerant pressures can be checked.

The outside air temp was 68 F, I calculated the flow rate to be about 60 gpm at 2800 rpm, not sure if my pump gives flow rate, I will check that later. Attached is a photo of my equipment.

Can you check and report the Fault History?

Fault history starting with the most recent and going back to 10 last faults.

Using the UP/DOWN buttons scrolls through the fault history.

If there are no faults present, the display will read “All Faults Clear”.

When the heater is off, the water temperature and the Aquarite cell temperature should be the same.
However, once the heater starts, the Aquarite cell temperature should begin to rise above the water temperature as displayed on the heater and as displayed in the automation from the water temperature sensor.

Can you report the three reading with the heater off and then on?

How far up does this flapper go up?

Check the cell and clean it if necessary.

Check the system pressure from the pump display and the filter pressure.

What automation system do you have?

Can you show the automation door inside label and the automation panel?

Thanks James for all your help/input. That is a refrigerant service port, bonding lug is connected though. The photo was taken right before my electrician connected the flex harness to the unit. I already placed a service call because it is only a few months old. I will report back with what the tech finds. I'm thinking its a hi pressure switch problem or refrigerant overcharge. The only time the problem occurs is when the spa gets to 93 degrees or higher, it operates normal and cycles correctly when heating pool to 83 degrees and also normal operation from my pool water temp of 83 degrees to 93 degrees on the spa. My pump doesn't give flow rate, maybe its to old. I am ordering an inline flow meter so i can adjust rpm more accurately. My filter pressure does go from about 12psi to 18psi when i switch from pool mode to spa mode. I did play around with pump rpm and problem occurs at all speeds

Thanks to everyone that helped. I had the heat pump looked at today. The tech found the high side pressure going over 550 psi and setting the high pressure trip when the jacuzzi got to 95 F. It should have been 435 psi at 95 F. Tech recovered Freon until the high side pressure was correct. So the heat pump was over charged from the factory.

Who did you get to service the heat pump.

Was it your regular HVAC company, someone that Jacuzzi recommended or someone the installer recommended?

Many people find that HVAC service techs generally do not work on "Pool" heat pumps.

For refrigerant issues, a Pool Tech is not usually qualified and many HVAC techs avoid pool equipment.

I really didn't want to bore you with the details, but because you asked, Your'e correct, the first company Raypak sent to look at it didn't work on heat pumps, in fact they didn't even have a gauge set with them. They usually do warranty work on Raypak gas heaters. They were the only ones that Raypak had on their list for warranty work in this area. Raypak suggested that i call some HVAC companies to see if they would be willing to look at it, but like you suggested, none of them wanted to work on the heat pump. I even called the company that takes care of the HVAC in my house, at first they also refused to look at it but later called back and agreed to at least look at the pressures, because they came across the attached chart. Raypak was horrible, the guy i was dealing with was not communicating with me, i sent 2 emails without a response, the first I was just asking for an update on their efforts to find someone to look at it because it had been several days since the last company they sent had been to my house. The second email was telling them what the tech found, that email was sent 3 days ago. The guy i am dealing with at Raypak warranty is Syed. i didn't realize this was going to be a problem when i purchased the heat pump. Hopefully i don't have anymore problems in the near future. Hoping with time, Raypak will get the service for their heat pumps figured out. The irony of it all is that it was overcharged, hopefully they don't have a bunch of overcharged units out there with nobody available to support their warranty service on heat pumps. https://s3.amazonaws.com/AWSProd/sites/raypakcom/documents/heat-pump-charging-charts/6000.71.14.pdf
