I have a Raypack Model 6450TI-E and over the last few months the display was fading. The unit was still under warranty (parts) so got the dealer to come out to look into the issues. When we opened up the controller area, we discovered a extensive mouse nest with six residents. They had chewed off most of the insulation from darn near every wire in this perfect home for them.
So, now the controller was no longer under warranty because of the mice and I am still waiting the price on the controller but figuring $500+ I just don't get why no effort is made to block the entry of critters into equipment like this by the companies that make these.
Besides the fading display, I got two error codes.
First was the H2O sensor fail which is a common sensor that goes bad. Was a pain to get to as its at the bottom of the unit. This was not mouse related and the part was covered.
The second error code was AMB Sensor Fail which is a outside temp sensor located on the bottom of the controller area. The mice chewed off this wire but I was able to fix it so got that working again.
So, I installed some metal screen where they were coming in and placed a number of mothballs in the bottom open area.
If you have this type of heater and live where you have mice I would check it.
