Current test results:

FC 4
pH 7.6
TA 70
CH 375
CYA 20
CSI -0.02
Temp 76

My CYA is getting pretty low and I don’t have any on hand to add to the pool. I am limiting my trips outside the house and was wondering if it’s a bad idea to use tabs for a while to gradually raise the level up. I have some from a year or so ago before I started the TFP method. They are the ones that come in a bucket from Leslie’s.

Any downside to using them for a while?

Each Trichlor tablet will raise your CYA by 2.7. So 7 - 8 tablets will raise your CYA close to 40.

You can use Trichlor as long as you keep an eye on your CYA level.

You may use the tablets to raise your CYA.
Just be sure your FC stays in the target range for your CYA using the FC/CYA Levels.
The tablets may take some time to dissolve based on water temperature.
They are also very acidic so watch your pH and TA.

Thank you everyone! I‘ll keep an eye on pH and TA and go back to liquid chlorine once my CYA gets to a good spot. I seem to need to add muriatic acid once a week or so, so the acidity of the tablets may be a blessing in disguise.

After I converted to liquid chlorine using TFP method years ago I had a whole large bucked of trichlor tablet. I used to intentionally run CYA on the low end of the range and use tablets for vacation and business travel. To Marty's point they are acidic so you'll be surprised that little or no MA is used while you add tablets. Check that pH also and you'll be fine.

Morning Allen,

Hope you're safe up there in NJ

I think your math is off unless I am missing something...if 2.7 per tab, 10 x's that would be 27, while 7-8 would be 18.9 - 21.6, yes?
