Starting up my pool, had to add a ton of water so no surprise no fc.

Put in a gallon of liquid chlorine, tested about 4 hrs later, still read zero.

So grabbed a fresh gallon of liquid chlorine poured some straight into the tester, 2 scoop r 0870 and no pink either. The chlorine has a strong smell so don't think it's bad.

The powder is only a year old, and worked last year.

Ordered a fresh bottle from Taylor but extremely disappointed that it died like that, and I'm guessing on how much to add until it gets here.[l

You bleached it out.

Do you have the OTO TC test? Use that to see if there is chlorine in the water.

I have the k2006 testing kit.

At about 50 ppm, it will start to bleach it out. That is a few drops in a 5 gallon bucket.

So you do not have an OTO kit with the K2006. Test your tap water. Nearly all municipal tap water has chlorine in it.

Sounds like you either need some CYA or have algae.

yes, cya was down to zero since needed to add so much water. adding about 3 lbs of cya as well currently.

Do you use antifreeze in your plumbing over the winter? If so and some made it into your pool water that would increase your chlorine loss.
