my question is. Is it normal when slamming my pool open for 5 days not see any CC when you test for it? Also my FC is not dropping like it did last year, last year it was getting sucked out like crazy. Also, it is still a light green. I will take pictures this morning to show.

Jeremy,

It can happen. Also important with slamming is meticulous attention to each detail. Please review the video below. Adjust your pH first. Looking at your test results it appears you are not reading the CYA ;test result correctly and are not testing frequently enough. Remember you round up on CYA so you reach and maintain the correct SLAM FC level. Brush every day plus run the pump 24/7. Most of the time that SLAM is extended it's because one or more of the SLAM requirements are not followed. Please post a set of test results with the photos.

Chris

FC= 9.5
CC= 0
CYA=25 I ran out of cya testing so I had to get this number at the very beginning from a pool store
pH= 7.4
TA=75
CH=150

I have been checking my CC and FC religiously. I mean every 3 hours and it barely drops. It took 12 hours for it to drop from 12 to 9 FC but is still this green. Also I'm not sure if this matters but I accidentally left my testing kit in my shed all winter. But when I began slamming my pool to 11ppm and the pool store had 9ppm I figured that everything was fine. My new test kit comes in Wednesday

Great that you're checking it religiously - that will help a lot! Just trying to reconcile your current results with 4 days ago that showed pH at 8.0. Did you adjust the pH to the proper range first? If so that's fine since pH results are unreliable above FC 10( *** Edit - Typo on original post). If not, this along with all other requirements of the SLAM procedure are vital for success. If you didn't do this you'll need to let the FC drop below 10 and then adjust pH then continue from there. Are you running the pump 24/7 and if so what's your filter pressure? We find pool store testing to be very unreliable so you really need to get the proper test refills. Could very well be your CYA is higher than you think and requires more FC for slamming. When you test and find you are below the required SLAM level you should add more chlorine to get back to SLAM level. The more closely you maintain the required FC level the shorter your SLAM will be. Have you added anything to the pool other than liquid chlorine, MA and stabilizer?

I did not but every result I just gave you was this morning when my FC was 9.5 so I would assume my pH is fine. My pool has been running 24/7. Filter pressure usually at 10 unless I vacuum, this morning it was 15 I will clean when I wake up. I also haven't added anything besides chlorine, not even stuff for pH. But I definitely think my CYA is much higher than they gave me. Since I only ran my pool for 8 hours when I had them test it.

Sounds like you're doing everything right except the test. At 56 deg you shouldn't be making much algae. I'll call in somebody more familiar with pool opening and see if they can help offer additional advice. If it were me I'd get the refill asap. You don't want to go too high on the FC level since it can cause damage or too low and you don't know what that is without a reliable CYA result. @ajw22 @mknauss any additional recommendations?

Chris

Add 1 1/2 gallons of 10% liquid chlorine each day with the pump running while you are waiting on your new reagents. Once you get them, run a full set of tests and post them up here.

If your pump has been running, does not matter much. I usually get my sample from about elbow depth.

hey guys I'm back! Here are my results
#3

FC= 8.5
CC= 0
CYA=35
pH= 7.3
TA=75
CH=150
Looks like my test kit was fine, obviously I didn't have the proper cya but I usually go 2 or 3 ppm over what is recommended so I don't need to add every 3 hours lol
Pool is a lot cleaner I can see all the way to the bottom just waiting for it to fully clear!??

Keep your FC at SLAM level until you pass all three criteria. Your CYA is 40. FC should be maintained at 16 ppm.
