So I got my paid subscription to the pool math app, and I got my TF pro kit. Completely brand new pool owner, literally only 1 week old today. I just got this kit last night so I'm looking to do all the tests, there's a YouTube video that shows how to test CA with the kit but I'm completely confused. I don't know what the bottom label is or the top label is, or the bottle, can someone please help with the instructions.

Fill with pool water to the 7.5ml line. Fill to 15 with reagent. Mix for 30 seconds.

Stand outdoors, with your back to the sun. Fill to the first line on the tube with the dot. Hold at your waist in front of you in the shadow of your body. Glance. If the dot is visible, fill to the next line. Repeat until the dot is obscured. Take the number on that line and add 10. That is your CYA.

I might be doing this test wrong but I'm not getting a cloudy result. I first filled it to the 15 mL. Mark fought all the instructions. Fill it to the top of the tube and it was clear I could see the black dot Then I thought the top of the mark meant 30 ml so I filled it to 30 ml redid the test and I still see the black dot.

What could I be doing wrong? Or is not turning cloudy an indication of something

You have two containers. One with marks from 100 to 30 (on the left in your picture). The other has the 7.5 and 15ml marks (on the right in your picture)

Put 7.5ml of pool water in the smaller container (on the right). Add 7.5ml of CYA reagent, and mix for 30 seconds.

Stand outdoors, with your back to the sun. Fill to the first line (100) on the tube with the dot. Hold at your waist in front of you in the shadow of your body. Glance. If the dot is visible, fill to the next line. Repeat until the dot is obscured. Take the number on that line and add 10. That is your CYA. If you filled it to the top line (30), and the dot is not obscured, then rour CYA is <20 if you fill the tube and it is not cloudy.

Or is not turning cloudy an indication of something

Has any stabilizer/CYA been put in your water?

CYA does not occur in water naturally. If none has been added then your CYA is 0 which is why the test does not become cloudy.

Great resource! Thank you...so my ideal CYA is 70-80. My PB gave me 2 bags of this (attached pic). Should I follow the instructions and add it to the skimmer or is this part of the 'sock method's? I haven't opened it but it feels granulated like very thick sea salt

That is pure CYA. Do not put it in the skimmer. Use the sock method and put the sock in front of a return.
