Purifiber for Hayward filter cartridges?

I used Jacks Magic Copper stain remover last year for my pool. My heater copper core started degrading and I was left with really bad copper stains on my 3M quartz plaster. Jacks worked really well. Jacks suggested I use Purifiber added to my skimmers to aid my cartridge filters in collecting the copper as it was removed from my pool walls and floor. This was late in the season. I would say prior to closing my pool Jacks cleared up 80% of the copper stains in about 3 weeks. When I opened the pool this year I noticed now there might only be 10% stains left. When I cleaned the filters at the end of the season I noticed the Purifiber was sort of packed on only two of my 4 filters. And really only covering maybe 30% on one side of each. I'm getting new cartridges this week and I would like to continue using the Purifiber this season to aid in the filtering process. I get a lot of paver sand in my pool and I think some of the dust gets past my filter and blows back in the pool creating cloudy water.

What I did last time was slowly add the Purifiber to one skimmer (without the basket) until the recommended amount was gone which if I remember was about 36 cups. My filter area is 450sqft. Is there a better way of doing it so the purifiber collects more evenly among all 4 filters? It seems if all 4 filters aren't coated with Purifiber evenly then it might be a waste of $.

I am sorry to say that I have not heard of good results with adding any thing to cartridge filters for the very reason you found. One thing you can do to help them is use a skimmer sock on the skimmer basket. A couple of people are making and experimenting with making a "sock" to go over their cartridges. We are still waiting to hear the end results on this.
