I have a salt water pool and solar heater for it. I have owned this house/been a pool owner for about a year. A few weeks ago I asked the guys who do the pool chemicals to check the pump to make sure everything was okay because I noticed the skimmer lid would surge with water and lift up daily (happened for a few days straight).

They came out the next day and said the pool needed a little more water (the level was half way up the skimmer flap at that point but I added more). And now today the pump is making this sound about 2 weeks later. It has never been this loud before. And the skimmer lid still surges with water daily. Is this sound normal/any advice? Thanks!

Welcome to TFP.

Check that nothing is stuck in the pump impeller.

Could be the start of bad bearings.

Could be the fan in the rear rubbing on the shroud.

Bearings all day long….take some close pictures of the pump in its entirety. Any water leaking around it that you have noticed in the past?
