Pump shooting water

That valve is intended to relieve high pressure from inside the filter. It could be broken, I guess, but usually when they break they just leak a little. The full-blown geyser is unusual, so it's possible that what you're seeing is the valve actually doing its job properly.

Have you recently done anything to the equipment -- manually closed a valve, etc. -- that might be causing pressure to build up?

It is a manual air relief, so it does not open on its own.

With the pump off, push down and rotate the top to the closed position.

You can remove the air relief and squirt some spray silicone into the valve to lubricate it.

Turn it upside down and spray in the silicone and try opening and closing to work the silicone into the O-rings or take it apart and lubricate the O-rings or replace the whole assembly.
