Pump question

I have an old 1 1/2 ho pump to operate sheer decents in my pool. Lately, it has stopped doing its job. It powers up but the pump only has a little bit of water and won’t fill up. On initial turn on, a sligh trickle comes from the sheer decents then stops. Any idea why the pump wouldn’t fill up with water and a possible solution? Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forum! So your pump seems to have power, but isn't filling-up with water, thus not supplying water to the sheer decents. First thing to do is try and figure out why the pump basket isn't filling-up with water. It should be at full prime. If not, try looking at the following:
- Pool water level high enough to the suctions source (poolside skimmer)?
- Skimmer flap (weir) door closed or stuck?
- Any suction side valves partially closed by mistake?
- Is the pump basket (clear lid) O-ring lubed and in good shape?
- Any chance something got in the suction line and is clogging water flow?
- With power off, have you reached into the pump to try and spin the impeller? Nothing clogged or obstructing movement? It should move freely.

I'd start there and see what you come up with.
