Pump motor leaking

Hi all! Here I was thinking my pool opening was going great….then this morning I saw water gushing from the motor. I took everything apart and checked the seals and relubed. Didn’t notice any issues. Then tried again and same thing. The motor is only a year old. Below is the video. Thoughts?

Yikes. At first I suspected perhaps your motor shaft seal gave out, but there are usually initial symptoms like a tiny noise or "small" dripping. Not an all-out gusher like yours. I've not see a shaft seal go out like that either. From the position of the water gushing, it looks more like a compromise between the wet & dry ends there at the seal plate. Perhaps winter got to it and there's a hairline crack along those two mating surfaces?

Thanks for your reply! Any recommendations on what I should replace first? I’m at a complete loss.

If possible, I would disassemble the seal plate from the motor end, lay everything out for us to see, and post a few pics for us. I'll ask @1poolman1 to help put his expert eyes on what you have displayed as well. Be sure to show us the face of the motor plate too. In many case we can see quickly what is happening.

In the meantime, be sure to add some liquid chlorine to the pool now to try and keep the FC elevated so you don't end-up with an algae bloom as well.

While waiting for addition eyes to catch up to this thread and look at those pics, one common theme I see is corrosion. On the motor shaft and other areas. I suspect there has been a water leak ( to some extent) for a while, but odd for a motor that is only one year old. The shaft seal looks like it's seen better days too. Is the entire pump one year old, or only the motor itself? Can you provide any additional history if repair was was ever done previously?

So I installed the motor at the end of last season, so it’s not even a year old. Everything else is about 8 years old and I haven’t replaced or repaired anything else.
