I have the pump pictured below. This is the 4th season using this pump/filter. We have a 15'round above ground 53" pool....Yes I know it is WAY to powerful for that size pool LOL.
Anyhow, we changed out the manufacturers sand this season with sand purchased from Leslie's pool #20 grade silica.
Our pump has started to over-heat and stop. We have cleaned the basket, used a wire hanger to clean the impeller (nothing was trapped). Still overheating. The pump is in the sun in the morning, however is in the shade starting early afternoon. It has only been in the high 70's low 80's since we opened the pool and is getting down to 50-60's over night. We do run in 24/7 as our timer has broken.
So now we are wondering if we either overfilled the filter (we filled it to 6-8 inches below the opening) OR is Leslie's sand not good for our filter? The Leslie's sand looked more like beach sand and the manufacturer sand was more white and seemed "lighter" if that makes any sense.
I have purchased a new pump because I don't want to be without one during the hot summer months here in NW Missouri.
I have heard that Pentair filters last 8-10 years, ours is only on year 4.
Thank you all for your guidance.
