Pump Basket Empty

Is it normal for my pump basket to be empty? The skimmer appears to be functioning. I did repair two small leaks on the suction side of the pump this morning. I first replaced an o-ring at a junction and then developed and repaired another where the plumbing meets the pump. (Admittedly, a semi-repair with putty and pretty gold duct tape since my husband is working and I'm the slightest bit impatient. Lol) but it doesn't appear to be leaking any.

PS could someone remind me how to update my signature? It doesn't appear to show. I have a 30' round AGP with a Hayward sand filter and a 1.5 HP pump.

Sabrina,

Welcome to TFP.. A Great resource for all broom-riding pool owners... :drown:

I am not an AGP expert, but I was under the impression that their pumps were gravity fed because the water is generally higher than the pool.. Do you have a valve that is shutting off the water coming from the skimmer?

I can't easily see how the skimmer could be working if the pump basket is not full of water. You do not want to run your pump without water in the pump basket...

Let's see what our other member have to say...

Thanks for posting,
