Proud owner of a glorious swamp!

Day 7 - Hour 4 - FC:12 - 5ml sample

Going on errands, wasn't able to check the pool sooner. The past few days have had a lot of clouds, but the sun's back, and it's hungry for chlorine. Nom nom nom. PSI 11 (baseline 10). Changing the sock, raking, throwing in 1.5 jugs. Considering doing a little leaf eater action.

Scriptorum,

I had had to send you this link after reading this entire post yesterday. It made my day.

Gator in pool

Zoinks! I'll take a heaping dish of "no thanks." The back yard is fenced in with wood and metal, and the nearest creek is a mile away, so I think we're safe. In the Charleston area we just had an alligator wash up on Folly Beach, a few days ago, still alive, but sick from the saltwater. An "alligator specialist" was called to the scene, who is apparently specially trained to shoot alligators. Back off, South Carolina, we're bringing in a specialist. ;)

Whipping out the leaf eater... sorry if that sounds pervy.

Wait! Gotta add the ball! I heard it gives the bag a little buoyancy, which is a good thing.

Good haul! I will treasure this mass of organic crud always.

Anyone know how to undo this latch for easier cleaning?

Day 7 - Hour 6 - FC:14 - 5ml sample
Raked, changed sock. PSI unchanged. Adding 1.2 jugs of 8.25%.

Once the green tint disappears and you have a hazy blue, I recommend you Add DE to a Sand Filter

Love all the pics! Keep it up! :goodjob:

The article suggests adding quarter cup of DE at a time until the pressure rises by 1PSI. Does DE added to a sand filter eventually get filtered out with the backwash or does it just intermingle with the sand?

Forget the alligator repellent, I think you might need to buy a bottle of sunscreen next time you go out and buy bleach.

I'm seeing the improvement in the pool. Highly entertaining descriptions. (Don't get me wrong, I want your pool to sparkle, and I think everyone on here will be happy for you when it's done, but I'll admit to being a little sad about the prospect of this thread ending)

Day 8 - Hour 0 - FC:16

Changing skimmer sock. Brushing and raking.

Pressure is at baseline PSI still. Curious.

Clarity is only marginally improved. Wish this was moving along faster, but what can you do. When I brushed I kicked up some more leaves. If I had a second pole, the girlfriend could rake what the brush kicked up, but alas, this is a one-pole household.

Good haul from the skimmer basket. Just ... absolutely ... disgusting stuff. It's a black hole of nastiness.

On the flip side, I can finally glimpse what appears to be the famed vacuum port at the bottom of the skimmer. Good heavens, Miss Sakamoto! You're beautiful!

The only way this pasty white boy can get a tan is by forming a layer of ash first.

When this thing changes, it's going to blow your socks off on how fast it happens. Keep up the good work.

This (apart from having no soul to worry about) is the other good part of being ginger: I just have to connect freckles when I want a tan.

If SC was a bit closer I would pick up an inflatable alligator, weight it down somehow, then hop your fence at night and slide it into the deep end for when the water clears up a bit more.

I can definitely see that third step.

*bridgman hopes there actually *is* a third step and that he didn't just get suckered ;)

I can see the change in the color of the water. Getting there!

bridgeman I would be SO right behind you helping to give him that gator! BUT being from Florida I bet I could find a REAL one to live in his pool! LOL

Day 8 - Hour 2 - FC:16 CC:Barely pink <1 - 5ml sample

Scriptorum's Puzzle of the Day: My baseline PSI has been 10 since the last backwash. The pressure gauge now reads 9 PSI. Any ideas what that could mean??

LOL. I hope the "sock-blowing-off" clarity comes soon! Even though this advice is coming from a soulless ginger. ;)

Luckily, I just moved to town and don't have any friends here yet, otherwise one of them would assuredly have the same "funny" idea as you.

And uh ... suuure ... there's a third step. Good eyes.

How long since last backwash? My HIGHLY uneducated guess is there may be a wee bit of channeling going on in the filter if it's been a while since your last backwash. Or it could be that you've mistakenly left a magnet near the gauge and it's pulling it lower, ever so slightly. :p

Last backwash was yesterday morning. Could channeling cause the PSI to lower?

Last taping of magnets to the sand filter was, of course, during the Annual Taping of Magnets.
