Proper positions of Jandy valves

My pump wasn't priming, so I checked all valves and o-rings. Now I can't figure out which positions the valves should be in to go back to normal operation.

I have a pool and a spa, which is higher than the pool. In the current positions that are pictured at the link below, water pours from the jets into the spa, but it doesn't fill up. The water remains at pool water level. The pool is chlorine, and we don't use the salt cell pictured.

I recently moved into this home and I'm not sure what each pipe goes to, as nothing was labeled, or labeled very well.

I labeled each valve in the photos. Can somebody tell me how each one should be set for normal operation, so both pool and spa are full with the pump on or off?

H,

Welcome to TFP... A Great pool resource for all valve challenged pool owners... :drown:

Valve number 1 is called the Return valve... Turn it so that the off flag points one way and it will return water to the Pool.. If you turn it the other way it will return the water to your Spa. In the position in your picture you are sending half the water to the Spa and half to the Pool. There is no way for me to tell which pipe goes to the Spa for sure, you will just have to try it and see... (I suspect the pipe on the left is for the Spa..)

Valve number 2 is called your Intake valve... If you turn it so that the off flag is pointed to the right in your picture, all the water will come from your Spa. If you turn it so that the off flag is pointed toward the left in you picture all the water will come from valves 3, 4, and 5.. You will have to figure out what each of those valve do, but I would assume they are for Skimmer 1, Skimmer 2, and the Main Drain.

The set up of the valves should be in one of three positions..

Pool mode... Intake valve is set to suck all the water from the Pool and the Return valve returns all the water back to the Pool.

Spa mode... Intake valve is set to suck all the water from the Spa and the Return valve returns all the water back to the Spa.

Spillover mode.. Intake valve is set to suck all the water from the Pool and the Return valve returns all the water back to the Spa. (This will overfill the Spa and it will spillover into the pool. Assumes of course that you have a raised Spa)

I suggest you get your SWCG running.. it is by far one of the best ways to chlorinate a pool...

Thanks for posting,

Jim R
