I am looking to add the SWG to my current liquid chlorine pool. It is about a 15,000 gallon pool and I saw an edge 40 on sale for around $1000. This seems like a good deal to me, am I right in thinking this? I noticed it at discount saltwaterpools.com

Yes, good deal. I paid $900 for my Universal25 (pandemic prices).

I had the edge 40 and ran great for about 3 1/2 years and the cell went bad. My pool was 23000 gallon and it put out more than enough.
Was a little disappointed it failed that quickly
