Pressure gauge on filter leaking

Where the gauge screws into the top of the filter, there's a small leak. It looks like clear silicone was used to seal and it maybe just needs to be resealed, not sure. Does this sound right?

It's a common failure mode and it typically indicates that the high-flow air release valve (the black plastic body that screws into the top of the filter) is cracked where the metal gauge and plastic meet. Thermal stresses can cause it. You can try to undo the gauge, clean up the threads and reinstall but my guess is it will continue to leak. I would purchase a replacement high flow air release if I were you. They cost about $30 and it's good to have one on hand just in case.

Also, you should NEVER seal the gauge on with silicone or any liquid threading compounds. The brass nipple on the gauge should have nothing but teflon tape wrapped around it and it should be seated until it is hand-tight and no further. The brass nipple can easily crack the plastic if you put a wrench on it and turn too far.
