Pressure gauge not installed with TA60 filter

So we finally got the pool shed fixed up (was supposed to be part of last year's liner change and pool area refurb) and we had a guy - recommended by builder - come and install the new pump and filter.

The filter is a 24" Pentair Triton TR60. The guy has installed it without a pressure gauge (though one was supplied with the filter).

The photos I'd seen of the filter show a pressure gauge on top of the clear plastic dome on top of the filter. As installed, ours just has a plastic thumbscrew bleed valve.

The guy told me he never fits a pressure gauge, but if I wanted one I'd have to buy some kind of adapter. He was really difficult to deal with and this just sounds like BS to me.

I used to frequently check the gauge on the old filter to check if there was an issue, ie filter in need of backwash or some other issue.

Is it OK to not have a pressure gauge?

You need a pressure gauge - how else can you determine when it's time to clean?
It's also the means for pressure release when draining for maintenance.

I would insist that the gauge is installed - if you still have it, it should be as simple as screw-in.

A filter should most definitely have a filter gauge. It is necessary for determining when the clean the filter as well as troubleshooting future problems.

Thanks guys - that is kind of what I thought. Right now there's just a bleed valve (is that the same as pressure release?) at the top of the clear plastic dome that will unscrew a little to bleed air out - initially was a bit of air at the top of that clear dome, but without touching that bleed valvd it is now almost completely full of water with no air (is that correct? second-guessing everything now!).

I have the gauge (it was in the box with the filter) but I'm not sure it'll just screw in in place of the bleed valve, because then there would't be a bleed valve... I guess that it needs that 'adapter' he was talking about but I'd have thought that should have been supplied with the filter??

The filter came with this part along with the gauge:

Tell the installer to bring it back. He had the dome off to load the sand. Its an easy install.

It comes with all necessary parts and it should be installed correctly.

Sure, this is how he's installed it (the air has gone now). When I pressed him about the gauge, he handed me a small cardboard box with the actual gauge in it, but no sign of those other parts. He just insisted he never installs pressure gauges but he was a really odd character - we don't really want to ger him back because I'd rather not have him here again!IMG_5359.jpeg

Yes, that's exactly the one. In the photo there it has the pressure gauge sticking out of the top of the dome, which is how I expected it to look. I ordered the filter, pump etc and this guy opened up the cartons and fitted everything. In hindsight I should have opened it up and checked the contents first. Actually I should've listened to my gut feel about this guy.
